Ash Barty retires: Tennis rocked as world No 1 quits game at age 25
World No 1 women’s tennis player Ash Barty has rocked the sporting world by announcing her retirement from the game at the age of 25.
The World No 1 made the public announcement in an Instagram post
Barty, who was at peak of her career as the reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon Champion, broke the surprise news in an Instagram post on Wednesday, accompanied by an emotional sit-down interview with close friend and former doubles partner Casey Dellacqua.
“There is no right way, no wrong way — it’s just my way. And this is perfect for me, to share it with you, to talk to you about it, with my team, my loved ones, that I will be retiring from tennis,” the Australian star, whose full name is Ashleigh Barty, said while holding back tears.
