Arsenal target Lisandro Martinez is attracted to the Premier League
Lisandro Martinez is attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League as Arsenal push for his signature.
The Gunners had an initial £30million bid rejected by the defender's club Ajax but have returned with an offer of £34m plus add-ons up to £38m.
Ajax though are holding out for around £43m knowing that the Argentine international is also fancied by Manchester United.
Martinez has expressed the fact he is happy with the Dutch champions and is very popular with teammates and supporters alike in Amsterdam.
He has been content to keep a low profile out of respect to the club and fans but is understood to be following the interest in him intently.
The 24-year-old would be open to the opportunity to play in the Premier League and would be determined to take his chance if the clubs can agree a fee.
United are interested in Martinez but need to sell first with Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly all looking to move on.
United are currently focusing all efforts on getting a deal agreed with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong and also hope to add Christian Eriksen on a free.
Arsenal want Martinez as their main defensive addition and are continuing talks with Leeds United for Raphinha this week after securing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.
Sportsmail reported that Arsenal have a meeting scheduled with Leeds this week as they look to strike a deal around £50m for Raphinha.
The Brazilian also has interest from Newcastle United while Tottenham and Chelsea were expected to make offers but Arsenal is understood to be his Premier League
Arsenal want to wrap up their transfer business early this summer to aid Arteta's preparations.
