Arsenal target Bruno Guimaraes undergoing medical with Newcastle United ahead of Premier League move

Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will undergo a medical with Newcastle United ahead of his move to the Premier League.

Arsenal have shown interest in signing the Brazil midfielder while Manchester United are also said to be monitoring the situation with Lyon prepared to cash in this month.

Newcastle now appear set to seal their biggest signing of the window having made a £33.5million bid for Guimaraes.

The Athletic now report Lyon have accepted Newcastle’s offer with Guimaraes believed to be keen on the move.

The player is currently in Ecuador ahead of Brazil’s World Cup qualifier on Thursday where he will undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move to St James’ Park.

It marks another January setback for Arsenal and their bid to bring in midfield reinforcements this month.

The Gunners have held talks with Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo over a possible loan move. However, Juve will not allow the player to leave until they have brought in a replacement.

While Guimaraes was considered an alternative option, Arsenal appear to have been priced out of a move.

The club also look set to miss out on top target Dusan Vlahovic, with Juventus moving in to sign the Fiorentina star.

Newcastle have already signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood this month but their efforts to bring Jesse Lingard to the club appear to have hit a wall.
