Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette wades into Bukayo Saka and Steven Gerrard row

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has waded into the row about Steven Gerrard's comments on Bukayo Saka.

Aston Villa boss Gerrard responded to Saka's comments after his Arsenal side won 1-0 at Villa Park on Saturday. Saka scored the winner in B6 to condemn Villa to back-to-back defeats in the Premier League and spoke of getting some rough treatment from Gerrard's players.

Saka received a response from Gerrard with the Villa boss making reference to operations he has had over the course of his career with Liverpool. The Arsenal youngster pleaded for referees to offer him more protection after the win at Villa in an interview with broadcaster BT Sport.

Saka insisted that he was not complaining to referee Andrew Madley but rather asking for help in avoiding injury. "I wasn’t complaining to the ref, but I just wanted to let him know that that’s my game running at players with pace and sometimes I need a bit more protection when players are purposefully trying to kick me," Saka said.

In response to the England star, Gerrard told the 20 year-old that physicality is something he will have to get used to. "It’s part of the game," Gerrard said. "The last time I checked it's not a no-contact sport. I think tackles are allowed, I think aggression is allowed, I think physicality is allowed.

"I'm sitting here now with screws in my hips, I’ve had about 16 operations. "I'm struggling to go to the gym at the moment and that’s all off the back of earning a living in English football.

"He’ll learn and he’ll learn quickly, unless they change it to a no-contact sport, which I don’t think they will.” Now Lacazette has responded to Gerrard's comments on Saka, retweeting on social media platform Twitter a post from Arsenal's official
