Arsenal's forgotten man could receive boost with Mikel Arteta's Oleksandr Zinchenko deal

Arsenal are expected to clinch their fifth summer signing this week after agreeing terms with Oleksandr Zinchenko over a £30million switch to north London.

The versatile Manchester City star is set to reunite with Mikel Arteta - who worked with the Ukrainian during his stint on Pep Guardiola's coaching staff - after a trophy-laden six-year spell with the reigning Premier League champions.

Zinchenko has been deployed as a left-back for the majority of his City career, however, the 25-year-old plays in a midfield role for his country and is expected to be utilised in that role by Arteta. But Zinchenko's imminent arrival is not expected to hinder a potential move for long-term Gunners target Youri Tielemans - and it could even lead to an unexpected Emirates lifeline for Nuno Tavares.

Tavares only arrived at the club last summer in a £7m deal from Benfica, but the left-back put in some pretty rash performances when deputising for Kieran Tierney. That had led to speculation that Arteta was planning to bin Tavares this summer to bring in a new left-back to compete with Tierney for a first-team berth.

Marseille are one club who have been linked with a temporary move for the full-back. But with Arsenal seemingly planning to shell out big money on deals for Zinchenko and Tielemans, Arteta could be forced to shelve any plans he may have had to offload Tavares.

After failing to qualify for the Champions League, Arsenal do not have an endless pot of money to delve into this summer. And If Arteta is adamant that he needs a player like Tielemans to further compliment his midfield options after snapping up Zinchenko, then he may have to put plans to strengthen other areas of his squad on ice.
