Arsenal 'one of the main contenders' to sign £50m star at the Emirates

Arsenal are “one of the main contenders” to sign Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Brazil international could leave the Premier League champions and has several offers on the table, including a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

According to The Athletic, the £90,000 per-week star is Arsenal’s number one striker target as Mikel Arteta starts to rebuild his goalscoring department following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in 2022.

The report states that Jesus would be open to moving to north London, with Erling Haaland’s arrival set to reduce his game-time, but the Gunners face competition for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Tottenham, who are in the market for an understudy for Harry Kane, Chelsea and Real Madrid are all in the running, although The Times believe Arsenal are ‘increasingly confident’ of striking a deal with City, who have set an asking price of £50m.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Jesus has been offered around a fair bit in the last two weeks.

“I think Real Madrid have been approached about signing him, Chelsea as well, he was one floated to Chelsea, but Arsenal are one of the main contenders for Jesus.

“He obviously worked with Arteta when he was the assistant to Pep, so I do think that works as a benefit to Arsenal.”
