Arsenal ‘make enquiry’ over Barcelona forward with West Ham also ‘interested’

Arsenal have reportedly enquired to Barcelona about the potential signing of Memphis Depay, with West Ham also keen.

The Dutch forward joined Barca on a free transfer last summer after spending four-and-a-half fruitful years with Lyon in France.

He hit the ground running in La Liga, netting eight goals in his first 15 league encounters before injury troubles hampered his season.

Since returning to the team in February, Depay has struggled for consistent game time with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang impressing since his January arrival from Arsenal.

The 28-year-old only penned a two-year deal when he joined the Blaugrana, meaning he is out of contract at the end of 2022/23.

As a result, Barca are reportedly considering the sale of Depay in the upcoming transfer window, with the club desperate to raise funds.

Having been previously linked with both Arsenal and Tottenham, Spanish outlets ABC and Fichajes (via the Express & Sport Witness) have added fellow Londoners, West Ham, to the mix.

It is said that the Catalan club are looking to ‘get rid of the players’ who are not in Xavi’s plans, with ABC stating that Depay is one player they are open to selling and his departure would be a ‘great deal’.

West Ham have ‘made contact’ and are ‘interested’ in signing the attacker, however, their lack of Champions League football makes them the ‘most remote option’.
