Arsenal have 'strong interest' in £50m Premier League star at the Emirates

Arsenal have a “strong interest” in Wolves forward Pedro Neto and the Midlands club are aware of it, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Mikel Arteta is keen on bringing a winger to the Emirates before the window closes and has made the Portugal international his top summer target.

According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old has emerged as Arteta’s primary target, with talks between the two clubs ongoing for the last month.

But The Sun claim that Arsenal want to pay around £35m for Neto, which falls £15m below Wolves’ valuation of the player, who is admired by the Gunners boss.

Neto only penned a new long-term contract back in March, meaning the Midlands outfit find themselves in a strong position around the negotiating table.

Arteta needs to add depth to his wide department with Nicolas Pepe being linked with a loan move to Nice after falling down the pecking order in north London last season.

But Brown reckons that Arsenal, who are yet to launch a bid for Neto, are waiting to offload the Ivory Coast international before proceeding to the next stage.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think a bid has been made, but both his club and the player are aware that Arsenal are interested in him.

“It might be they want to get Pepe out of the door before they do anything more formal than that, but there is definitely a strong interest there.”

While capable of playing through the middle and also in a deeper role, Neto has spent the majority of his career on the wing.
