Arsenal could sign £85m Premier League duo

Arsenal are expected to sign Gabriel Jesus although their failure to qualify for the Champions League has “cast doubt” over signing Youri Tielemans, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The north Londoners have been heavily linked with the £85m-rated duo as Mikel Arteta looks to improve his squad ahead of next season after his side missed out on fourth place on the final day.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have identified Jesus as their number one target, with Arteta desperately hoping to bolster his strike department following Alexandre Lacazette’s move to Lyon.

The report states that technical director Edu and Jesus’ representatives have already held talks, while Arsenal are plotting fresh discussions in order to move into pole position to land the 25-year-old, with Arteta ‘desperate’ to reunite with him at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Arteta’s men are also hoping to secure a deal for Tielemans, who’s set to be available for around £40m, with just 12 months left on his contract.

However, the Belgium international previously admitted he wants to be playing in the Champions League next season, something the Gunners can’t offer after they finished fifth.

Crook reckons that had Arsenal claimed fourth spot, Tielemans would already be signed up, but now believes a move for the ex-Anderlecht star could be up in the air.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Jesus, I expect him to sign for Arsenal. Tielemans is interesting because he wants Champions League football. Had Arsenal held onto a place in the top four, that deal would probably be done. The fact they didn’t make it has cast a little bit of a doubt.”
