Arsenal confident Mikel Arteta will sign new deal amid Paris Saint-Germain interest

Arsenal remain confident Mikel Arteta will commit his long-term future to the club, amid reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spaniard’s position looked almost untenable three games into the current season with Arsenal pointless after they suffered comprehensive defeats against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City.

After being granted the opportunity to spend £160million on new recruits, however, Arteta has led an impressive revival which has seen Arsenal emerge as the favourites to land fourth spot and make a return to the Champions League after a five-year absence.

The 39-year-old has just over a year remaining on his current contract and, regardless of where Arsenal finish this term, is certain to be handed the opportunity to sign an extension.

So impressive has Arsenal’s form been, however, that Arteta is now among the options to replace beleaguered Mauricio Pochettino at PSG, the club at which the former Gunners captain began his playing career.

Pochettino’s position is looking increasingly precarious following last week’s Champions League capitulation against Real Madrid while Sunday’s win over Bordeaux was overshadowed by the abuse star players Lionel Messi and Neymar were subjected to.

According to Football.London, Arsenal firmly believe Arteta won’t have his head turn and is keen to accelerate the rebuilding job he has overseen with more funds on the way in the summer which will allow him to add to his squad.

‘It is just that I am really happy here and my aim is to build with the club a winning team that when we watch it feels identifiable and that can transmit what we want football-wise and as an organisation,’ Arteta said last month, addressing his future.
