Arsenal and Liverpool FC are already helping Man City in the transfer window

Manchester City are yet to be active in the transfer window.

Rumours that they had triggered a £100m release clause for Bruno Guimaraes were wide of the mark, there was no fight with either Chelsea or Bayern Munich for Michael Olise and there has not even been an announcement for Savio. Even when the City Football Group player is eventually announced at the Etihad, it is very possible that there is very little other change in the squad.

There is already frustration from some Blues at a lack of action, keen for the club to press home their advantage and set them up for next season. City generally like to do their business early, so their lack of early action has left some impatient.

Ultimately, City's window will be judged on whether it has improved the team and squad and where it leaves the Blues next season. To draw that conclusion, it has to be seen against what rival clubs are doing.

Last year, Arsenal made a statement before June was out by beating City to the signing of Declan Rice, setting a new British transfer record of £105m in the process. That was in addition to a £65m signing of Kai Havertz, while more money was set out for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.

Liverpool had completed the signing of Alexis Mac Allister before City had even finished the previous season's efforts in Istanbul, and Dominik Szoboszlai was confirmed in early July after his release clause was triggered before the end of June. The midfield revolution that Jurgen Klopp badly needed was quickly sorted out.
