Armed police swoop on car as man arrested over fake gun and making 'threats to kill'

Armed police swooped on a car in Bolton and arrested a man on suspicion of having a fake gun and making threats to kill.

Officers were first scrambled to Deane Church Lane at around 3.10pm yesterday afternoon (Sunday) to reports of a man with an 'offensive weapon' at a house. The suspect fled the scene in a car before police arrived.

The suspect was then spotted driving on nearby Bridgeman Street. Armed police stopped the car and the male driver was detained.

A man, aged 33, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm, making threats to kill and sending communications with intent to cause distress. He remains in custody to be questioned by detectives.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 3:10pm on Sunday 5 March 2023, officers were called to reports of a male with an offensive weapon at a property on Deane Church Lane, Bolton. Officers attended the scene and the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.

"Specialist officers were able to locate the suspect driving in a vehicle on Bridgeman Street in Bolton and were able to stop the vehicle safely and detain the suspect. A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm, threats to kill and sending communications with intent to cause distress.

"He remains in custody for further questioning."
