Armagh and Galway request Croke Park switch

Armagh and Galway have requested that their forthcoming All-Ireland group stage contest be moved from Carrick-on-Shannon to Croke Park, RTÉ Sport understands.

A request was submitted to the GAA today to address a possible attendance issue, with headquarters the preferred venue.

The Group 2 fixture had been scheduled to take place at Avant Money Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada on 18 June, but it's believed both counties are concerned about capacity issues with the Leitrim venue able to facilitate just over 9,000 fans.

The Orchard County took a huge crowd to last year’s All-Ireland quarter-final against the Tribesmen, played as the first game in a double-header with Kerry and Mayo, and while similar numbers are unrealistic, the counties still feel that the demand may outstrip supply.

Armagh have already endured one ticketing headache this summer with a number of fans missing out on their Ulster final penalty shoot-out loss to Derry

The previous Ulster games against Antrim, Cavan and Down had allowed their supporters to buy tickets online, but for the final all tickets were sold through clubs with no online tickets sold.
