Argentina referee rushed to hospital after being mobbed by losing side

The business of being a football referee can be a bit of a lonely place.

It’s very rare that a referee receives the praise they deserve when they get a tough decision right or make a brave call.

When they get it wrong, however, the limelight couldn’t be more fierce and punishing, be it in the stadium during the game, online or in the aftermath of the clash they were officiating.

Now, while English referees have become accustomed to the relentless abuse being hurled at them from the stands and the players on the field, they’re never really in any true physical danger.

The same can’t be said of referees in other parts of the world though, as was shown in a shocking clip out of Argentina that has been doing the rounds on social media.

The surreal incident occurred at the end of an amateur cup final between La Puerta and Sportivo Tirolesa in the Argentine province of Cordoba.

After the clash went to penalties, it was Sportivo Tirolesa who would come out on top, much to the ire of their opponents who clearly did not take too kindly to the loss.

In fact, it seems they reserved quite a lot of blame for referee, Eduardo Pastorino as an angry mob of La Puerta players barrelled towards him.

Realising the danger he was in, Pastorino tried to leg it but was soon hunted down and assaulted by a massive contingent of the La Puerta squad.
