Are rent prices in Manchester too high?

Household costs across the country have been putting a strain on many people throughout the UK, with rising fuel prices bringing hardship to many as autumn and winter approach.

On top of the high energy bills, rent costs in Manchester have soared. Average rent this year hit a peak of £1,127 per month, the highest recorded by Rightmove in 16 years as prices rise 23.4 percent since last year.

With it getting increasingly harder for people to find places to rent, particularly in the city centre, we want to know what you think about rent prices in Manchester.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

One city centre dweller told people "don't move to Manchester" in a viral TikTok video, after only managing to secure one viewing after deciding to move flat following their landlord upping rent from £1,000 per month to £1,300.

Some readers have already shared their thoughts on the issue, with one arguing: "The main problem with renting or buying in and around Manchester: ridiculous supply and demand dynamics resulting in crazy property speculation in too concentrated an area - and then far too many areas that are undesirable and undervalued by comparison. A vicious circle that needs breaking."

Another reader shared their experiences, saying: "My son rents a small room that fits a bed, skinny wardrobe and desk, luckily he does have his own bathroom (toilet, shower and small basin) it's costing him £1400 just for a room in a shared house."
