Are Boots, Superdrug and Lloyds Pharmacy open today on the Queen's funeral bank holiday?

Dozens of shops have announced that they will shut their stores on Monday to mark the Queen’s funeral. September 19 will be a bank holiday in the UK as the Queen’s state funeral takes place at Westminster Abbey in London.

Retailers are not required by law to shut their doors on the day of the funeral, but many have announced that they will be. Other retailers may choose to open for reduced hours, as many regularly do on other bank holidays.

The government guidance states that businesses "may wish to consider closing or postponing events, especially on the day of the state funeral". However, it adds that this is "at the discretion of individual businesses".

A few branches will remain open to provide pharmacy services for those who need them, 'although they will close during the hours of the funeral,' according to the health and beauty retailer's Facebook page.

Boots Opticians and Boots Hearingcare branches will all be closed on the bank holiday.

"A small number of stores in key central London or travel locations will remain open to serve members of the public."
