Antony transfer battle heats up as Manchester United discover top target's 'preference'

Manchester United are another day closer to the Europa League final and the summer transfer window reopening.

The less that is said about yet another Premier League defeat the better as United yet again embarrassed themselves. Ultimately, this season will be forgotten in a hurry except for the potential glory that is still to be had in Europe.

Winning that competition will guarantee a place in the Champions League next season which will be huge for Ruben Amorim, particularly as he looks to strengthen his squad. The added funds would allow him to do just that and while it wouldn't save the season, it would be good to leave this dreadful campaign on a high.

MEN Sport has taken a closer look at a couple of reports surrounding United going into the transfer window which could benefit them greatly.

According to Football Espana, Real Betis are starting to fear that they may not be able to sign Antony permanently even if they qualify for the Champions League. It is understood that both Atletico Madrid and Juventus are showing an interest in the Brazilian thanks to his brilliant form in Seville.

Villarreal, who occupy the last Champions League spot, are thought to see Antony as more of a priority as do Betis and Atletico. Antony's current club are believed to want him on a loan deal next season but we understand that United want to sell him.

What MEN Sport says: This transfer battle will be music to the ears of United as they look to secure funds for future signings. There could now be a genuine scenario where United will be able to demand more for Antony than Jadon Sancho which would have been unthinkable in January. What is particularly good for United is that a few teams want the winger and as such could drive his price tag
