Antonio Rudiger fires warning to Chelsea board over signing new contract
Antonio Rudiger insists he’s happy at Chelsea but whether he stays at the club beyond the end of the season is not solely down to him.
The German is out of contract at the end of the season and he’s rejected two proposals from the Blues to extend.
Rudiger is currently one of the lowest paid senior members of the squad, earning around £90,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have offered Rudiger a new deal worth around £140,000-a-week but he wants parity with the squad’s top earners on closer to £210,000-a-week.
But the German has suggested the decision is not as straightforward as simply offering him more money, with Rudiger putting the ball in the board’s court to get the renewal completed.
‘I feel great here, I have always said it,’ Rudiger told the Athletic. ‘I think the way I play you can see that I’m happy here. But there are also other people who have to make decisions.’

Speaking after Chelsea’s Club World Cup victory on the weekend, Rudiger hinted at staying at the club by insisting he wants to win the Premier League.
‘Of course I want to win the Premier League,’ said Rudiger.
‘Does it keep getting better and better for me at Chelsea? Yes. We had never won this trophy (FIFA Club World Cup) in Chelsea’s history before. I’m very delighted that we didn’t give up, that we did our thing. We tried everything and won.
‘I just want to help, I just want to be important and lead by example. This is the main thing. We all showed character against Palmeiras. None of us gave up.
