Antonio Rudiger: Fascinating footage of Real Madrid’s medics treating injury emerges

Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger suffered an awful injury while scoring his dramatic late equaliser against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The German centre-back, who joined Madrid from Chelsea in the summer, suffered a nasty cut after colliding with goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin.

Rudiger managed to head the ball into the net, securing Real Madrid’s place in the Champions League knockout stages in the process, but was left dazed and covered in blood.

“What doesn't kill you makes you stronger,” Rudiger tweeted late on Tuesday evening. “I am okay - thanks for all your messages.”

He then posted a photo of himself on the flight home alongside the caption: “We Alive”. A big bandage covered most of his face.

Rudiger’s heroics will have further endeared him to everyone at the Bernabeu - especially the club’s fans.

He well and truly put his body on the line for the team.

Real Madrid have now uploaded a fascinating four-minute video showing how the club’s medical staff immediately dealt with Rudiger’s injury.

Their first course of action was to escort him as quickly as possible to the treatment room.

As Rudiger couldn’t see properly, he had to be guided to the table.

Clearly in a lot of pain, Rudiger was advised to keep pressure on the injury.

David Alaba, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Eden Hazard all came to the room to check on their injured teammate, whose cut was stitched up by the medical staff.

It’s been reported that Rudiger required 20 stitches to stop the bleeding.
