Antonio Conte's January transfer business could grant Manchester United free run at £40m signing

So far, the January transfer window has been a quiet one, with even Newcastle United struggling to do significant business despite their new ownership. With the end of the month fast approaching, many clubs will be looking to get business done before the close of play on January 31st.

One of those clubs is Tottenham Hotspur, who appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager partway through the first half of the season and are now looking to bolster his options.

They have been linked with Sofyan Amrabat in the centre of midfield but, more importantly, with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderer's dynamic winger Adama Traore.

But how can Spurs signing Traore benefit Manchester United?

Traore has played on the right-wing for Wolves during his time at the club but has also made appearances at right wing-back. It seems that position is where Conte and Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici believe he can play for the London side.

This would address their problem in that area, with Matt Doherty and Emerson struggling to impact under Nuno Espirito Santo and now Conte.

But Traore was not their only target for the right wing-back position, as they had also enquired about Brighton & Hove Albion's Tariq Lamptey. The latter United reportedly have also registered an interest in.

A deal for the Spanish winger could mean that United have a free run at Lamptey and would be able to sign him in the summer.

The MEN Sport understands that right-back is one of four positions United could look to strengthen in the summer window. Aaron Wan-Bissaka failed to make the cut now the team has transitioned into a different way of playing, and Diogo Dalot has usurped him.
