Antonio Conte provides positive Tottenham Hotspur injury update vs Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has confirmed that Oliver Skipp and Ryan Sessegnon are making 'good' progress but will not be able for this weekend's game against Newcastle United. The duo have been out for almost a month but are now back in training ahead of the remainder of the season.

Skipp suffered a pelvic injury before Spurs' FA Cup fifth-round trip to Middlesbrough, while Sessegnon picked up a hamstring issue in the 5-0 win over Everton. Ben Davies came back with a 'small' problem from international duty with Wales but is back fit and in contention to face the Magpies.

Apart from that, it is largely positive on the treatment table for Tottenham, who are still pushing for a top four place, having won their last two Premier League matches. Conte's men secured victories against Brighton and West Ham to put them within touching distance of the Champions League spots.

With a number of his players reporting for duties with their countries, it is understood that Spurs have got most of their key assets back in a clean bill of health. When asked about the state of his squad, Conte revealed that it is just Skipp and Sessegnon who are unlikely to play on Sunday.

He told Football.London : "Good news for Oliver, for Skippy and Sessegnon. They are very, very close to being back with the team.

"They're improving a lot. They're having important training sessions. Not with the team, apart, but I hope next week to have both players with the team, Ryan Sessegnon and Oliver Skipp."

After being questioned about a possible issue for Cristian Romero, he added: "I still didn't understand this situation. I spoke with the player, and it was very curious.
