Antonio Conte open to Christian Eriksen return at Tottenham

Antonio Conte has suggested that he would welcome the chance to work with Christian Eriksen at Tottenham.

Eriksen has been sidelined since he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s group game against Finland at Euro 2020 last June.

The 29-year-old now has a ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) fitted to his heart, which ruled him out of continuing his career at Inter, but he has joined Brentford on a six-month deal until the end of the season.

But Conte has not ruled out the prospect of Spurs re-signing Eriksen, who left to join Inter in 2020, if he impresses for Brentford.

When asked if Spurs had discussed the prospect of re-signing Eriksen in the January window, Conte replied: ‘No, honestly no.

‘I was surprised about the situation because in my mind, honestly, I thought Christian needed more time before coming back to play in England.

‘But now he’s signed for Brentford. Only six months, and we’ll see what happens.

‘I’m the first person to be happy to see him again on the pitch because we spent a really good time at Inter Milan together. We won the league, we spent two important seasons together. I wish him all the best for the future.

‘And you don’t know what will happen. It would be good for me to have him again, to work together again.’

Conte also revealed he met Eriksen by chance at a hotel last weekend.

‘I was lucky because I met him on Sunday and it was good to speak with him,’ said Conte.

‘I saw him with his family and it was good.

‘It happened that I met him
