Antiques and 60s and 70s vinyl LPs up for sale at Maxwells auction

Collecting has always been a very popular pastime. It goes all the way back to the 'Grand Tour' when many classical items were brought back to the UK and formed collections in stately homes and museums. Then on a less grander scale, many have their own affordable collections - dolls, teddy bears, dinky cars, medals, porcelain figures.

While heritage and vintage finds are still popular, the modern world is starting to take over the collecting game. Collectors are looking for Star Wars, Warhammer, American and British Marvel comics, for example, with items from the last century topping many 'must-find' lists.

Next week, Maxwells is offering the first part of a major collection of vinyl LPs at its auction, available to be bid on in-house or online.

There'll be rare Vertigo first issues; LPs by Dr X, Pussy, The Open Mind, Gallery, Nick Drake, Cluster and Cosmic Jokers; and good autographed records including Queen and Stone Roses.

There'll also be a small collection of pistols and a private collection of Georgian and pre-Georgian silver on sale.

The sale days for the Fine Art and Antiques Auction are Tuesday, September 13 at 10am and Wednesday, September 14 at 10am.
