Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte: Footage of amateurs fight re-emerges

Footage has emerged on Twitter showing heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte fighting as amateurs, a fight won by the latter in what was a war in the ring.

The fight between the pair, filmed on a grainy camera around 12 years ago, shows the two going at it in the ring – the pair are exchanging blows, but Whyte shows his power and ability to beat AJ.

Joshua looks extremely different to what he does now, you can see the ability there, but he is yet to fully develop into what we see in the ring now.

Whyte, however, looks built and powerful even at this young age, which is a big reason behind his victory in this amateur bout.

The tweet was in response to a clip showing Anthony Joshua and Joe Joyce sparring in the ring, with the tweet reading: “Video edited to favour Joshua, but Joe Joyce made Joshua look like Floyd Mayweather. anyway and just one sparring partner, Joshua lost to Whyte in the amateurs and beat him in the pro.”

We’ll ignore the context of the tweet, though, and just watch the footage. That’s what it’s all about after all!

Rumours have been floating around about AJ’s next fight after his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk was put in doubt due to the champion fighting in the ongoing war in Ukraine. This means AJ is now on the lookout for another opponent for May or June time.

AJ has set a list of four opponents he would like to face and Joe Joyce is one on the list. A battle between the pair would see the two Brits go toe-to-toe in the ring after the pair were sparring partners for Team GB.
