Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder: Lennox Lewis makes his prediction

Anthony Joshua looks set to be going head-to-head with Tyson Fury this year as the prospect of an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world edges ever closer to becoming reality, with the feat not achieved since 2002.

Two decades ago, it was British icon, Lennox Lewis who became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, with The Lion still keeping his name in the sport by commenting on boxing, with his opinion.

Until Fury offered AJ a fight, there was plenty of speculation over who he could take on after his losses to Oleksandr Usyk, with Lewis talking about the outcome with one potential matchup.

Deontay Wilder was touted as a potential opponent for AJ, and that could still well be the case following the clash with The Gypsy King, with The Bronze Bomber returning to the ring for the first time since his losses to Fury, taking on Robert Helenius.

However, if AJ was to take on The Bronze Bomber, Lewis isn’t convinced the Brit would be able to get the win and has backed the American to get the better of him, saying: “Definitely Wilder. Wilder has that thing in him where he wants to hurt you and every time, he throws that right hand he’s trying to damage with it, he’s throwing it to land it – he’s throwing it with emphasis.”

The pair are still to take each other on, with the fight not happening when they were both champions, although, Eddie Hearn claims they have tried recently to get the fight booked in, but Wilder’s agent, Shelly Finkel has yet to respond.

Hearn said: “I actually reached out to Shelly Finkel the other day because I have got so much money for Deontay Wilder in an offer, but they never come back to me, so I don’t know whether Deontay Wilder doesn’t want to hear about that offer or whatever.”
