Anthony Joshua's reaction to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at Oscars

The world continues to react to the shocking altercation at the Oscars.

The prestigious award ceremony’s best feature documentary award was set to be handed out by comedian Chris Rock, and while the Oscars usually involves risky jokes, this one seemingly went too far.

The 53-year-old comedian made a joke about famous actor Will Smith’s wife, poking fun at her alopecia diagnosis and lack of hair.

Rock compared her look to that of G.I. Jane, which originally made the American film star chuckle, though, the sincerity of his laugh can now be questioned.

After seeing his wife’s bemused reaction, Will Smith briskly walked onto the stage and delivered a blow to Chris Rock before sitting back down and launching into an eruption of foul language over the incident.

Will ended up claiming his first Oscar in the best actor category for his leading role in ‘King Richard’, but the confrontation overshadowed his achievement. It set the internet alight for sure.

As mentioned, the internet has taken this and ran with it. The slap has made for a viral meme format and the event has grabbed the attention of millions across the world. This got people talking from all walks of life, including Anthony Joshua.

The sporting world, especially combat sports, felt destined to weigh in on a strike like this, but Joshua is definitely on Will Smith’s side.

The British boxer took to his Instagram story to say that he was ‘proud’ of Smith, but also offered him some fighting advice should the actor ever find himself in a similar situation again.

“Proud of you bro. Next time close your fist.”
