Anthony Elanga struck by coin thrown by Leeds fan during Manchester United’s win at Elland Road

Anthony Elanga was hit by a coin thrown by a Leeds United supporter during Manchester United’s 4-2 victory on Sunday.

In a thrilling match at Elland Road, United threw away a two-goal lead as Leeds pulled it back to 2-2 in the second half before Fred and Elanga struck late on to seal the win for Ralf Rangnick’s side.

But during the celebrations for Fred’s goal which put United 3-2 ahead, Elanga fell to the turf after he was hit on the head by a coin and required medical treatment from the team’s physio.

A flare was also thrown on to the pitch during the celebrations for Fred’s goal.

Elanga was able to continue and went on to wrap up United’s victory with an excellent finish in the 88th minute after an impressive turn by Bruno Fernandes.

The win strengthens United’s position in fourth as they are now four points clear of fifth-placed West Ham.

Speaking after the game, United captain Harry Maguire said: ‘We needed to start the second half better, for sure.

‘They came out right on top of us; their first goal is obviously really lucky and it got them right back in it and then they scored a good goal.

‘We said at half time we needed to score more in the second half and we managed to do that.’
