Annan Athletic star focusing on League Two promotion push after Scottish Cup exit

Owen Moxon reckons Annan can now concentrate on their promotion push in League Two after tumbling out of the Scottish Cup.

The Black and Golds went down 3-0 at home to Rangers in their much hyped fifth round tie and this weekend they are at home to Edinburgh City.

Third placed Galabankies have enjoyed a successful league and cup campaign with an 11 game unbeaten run. That has kept them firmly in contention for promotion as well as landing the bumper cup clash.

Now Moxon insists their focus is firmly on the league.

He said: “We can now concentrate on the league after that Rangers game.

“We had a good day and hopefully the fans enjoyed it too despite the result.

“We had a massive game on Tuesday night at Elgin and want to keep things going in the league.”

Moxon told how he savoured pitting his wits against Rangers star Aaron Ramsey, on loan from Juventus, in the midfield battle.

He said: “It was always going to be a hard game against the Scottish champions and it was obviously a great experience for the boys.

“And for me personally it was special to be playing against two world class midfielders in Stevie Davis and Aaron Ramsey who have played at the highest level.

“Aaron put his head around the dressing and wished everybody all the best. It shows what a big player he is that he took the time out to wish us good luck.

“I hope he goes on and does well.

“I asked him for his top, but a wee boy was there to asking for it so I said to Aaron to just give it to the wee man.”
