Anger as York football fans left stranded after match at LNER Community Stadium
Football fans have voiced their anger after being left stranded outside the stadium as there were no buses running in the area.
Both York City FC and First York have apologised after supporters were unable to get a bus from the LNER Community Stadium after Tuesday's game.
The club has since said the matter was discussed with York Stadium Management Company, which confirmed that they had already carried out their own initial review, including discussions with First Buses.
A statement released today said: "We are assured and satisfied that the same pre match-day operational planning and communications with all stadium stakeholders were followed for Tuesday's fixture, as has happened for previous fixtures - including the most recent midweek fixture against Darlington last week when adequate numbers of buses were provided post game.
"Whilst the SMC’s review continues, the SMC have informed us that they have committed to carrying out additional pre-match checks (over and above those already carried out) with all third-party providers of match day services upon whom they rely on to ensure that the club’s supporters enjoy their match day experience of the stadium."
The club also reminded fans that additional buses back into the city centre are currently only provided until 9.45pm following a midweek fixture.
Where higher attendances are expected, the SMC requests additional buses in advance to meet the expected demand.
York City FC added: "We are aware that a detailed review of match-day travel plans is currently in progress between all stadium stakeholders, with the intention of learning from the first nine months of match day operations at the stadium and embedding appropriate improvements and adjustments.
