A major update has emerged on Celtic and their plans for Vasilis Barkas’ future at the club…

According to Football Insider, the Hoops are prepared to sanction a permanent exit for the goalkeeper at the end of the season.

The report claims that his wage demands put to bed any chance of a loan move away from Parkhead in the January transfer window and the club are now looking to cash in on him in the summer.

Ange Postecoglou must brutally axe the Greek international from his squad as supporters will surely want him gone ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The 27-year-old is currently the third-choice option behind Joe Hart and Scott Bain at Celtic and has only made one appearance in the league this season, despite being signed for a reported £2.95m in 2020. He played 15 times in the Premiership in his debut campaign and came under fire for his performances.

Ex-Premier League shot-stopper Paul Robinson rinsed the dud last year, saying: “Barkas had a really poor season last year.

“A mistake like that last night and the criticism that has followed, it is going to be difficult for him again. He is already on the back foot going into the season.

“Barkas wasn’t good enough last year and Bain wasn’t good enough last year. They have not replaced Fraser Forster.

“If they have any chance of winning the title next year they need a new goalkeeper. You need a top goalkeeper to play in big games.”

He’s also copped stick from Tam McManus who dubbed the Greek stopper “horrendous.”

This shows that he struggled to find his form in Scotland and Postecoglou wasted no time in signing Hart to be his new number one last summer.

Barkas is reportedly on £9k-per-week at Parkhead and that is a lot of money to be wasting every month on a player who is not
