Andy Ruiz Jr is looking 'scary' quick and powerful in latest training footage

Andy Ruiz Jr is one of the best boxers in the world today.

Known as ‘Destroyer’, he holds an in-ring record of 34 wins from 36 professional fights with only two losses.

He’s a former unified heavyweight champion and became the first male boxer of Mexican descent to win a world heavyweight championship.

As of October 2021, he was ranked as the fifth-best active heavyweight boxer by ESPN as well as the sixth-best by BoxRec and seventh by ‘The Ring’ magazine.

His profile shot up when he shockingly defeated household name Anthony Joshua on June 1, 2019. This allowed him to claim the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight championships despite him not originally being scheduled to take part in the bout.

At first, Joshua was going to take on high-ranked heavyweight Jarrell Miller, but, he had failed three drugs tests prior to the fight, leading Ruiz to step in as the replacement and take the championships.

After that stunning victory over Joshua, Andy Ruiz Jr fought the Brit again and this time, Joshua came out on top. His first fight post the series with Joshua was against Chris Arreola.

He overcame Arreola by unanimous decision and now has another fight lined up for a few months time.

Ruiz is scheduled to take on Luis Ortiz on September 4. This will happen over a year after Ruiz last fought and training appears to be intense.

A video shared by Andy himself, and then later reposted on Twitter by user @MichaelBensonn, shows fans how training is going for the star.
