Andy Murray in Olympics swansong as tennis star included in GB squad for Paris games

Andy Murray is set to have one last crack at the Olympics after being included in the GB squad for the games in Paris this summer.

The Scot, who is the only male tennis player to win two Olympic gold medals (in 2012 and 2016) had previously stated that he did not expect to continue playing tennis after the summer due to recurring injuries, and was expected to bow out at the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.

However the 37-year-old will form part of the GB team that will travel to France, after the tennis picks for the squad were confirmed on Sunday at the Queen's Club. Murray captured his first gold medal at London 2012 with a straight sets victory over rival Roger Federer - who had beaten him in the final at Wimbledon just weeks earlier - and claimed his second gong four years later by edging out Juan Manuel del Potro in a four set epic in the Olympic Games in Rio.

Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper and Dan Evans are expected to join Murray in the men's singles, with the Dunblane player also nominated alongside Evans in the men's doubles. But one British star who won't be in Paris this summer is 2021 US Open winner Emma Radacanu, after it was revealed that the 21-year-old has turned down on one of the two women's singles places on the team.

Radacanu has been recovering from problems on her ankles and wrists after having surgery last year. And the head of the GB Olympic Team Iain Bates reckons her decision not to go to Paris is justified.

He said: "I think she feels this isn’t going to be the right timing for her for this summer." The International Tennis Federation will confirm every nation's line up for the games on July 4 before the action gets underway 22 days later on July 26.
