Andy Murray ditches coach after Australian Open disappointment

Andy Murray has split with new coach Jan de Witt after undergoing a trial period with the German. The former world No 1 had a disappointing early exit in the Australian Open second-round but made his first final in more than two years at the Sydney ATP 250 the week before. He is set to play the ATP tournaments in Doha and Dubai next month, but is now without a coach.

Murray parted ways with Jamie Delgado, his coach of more than five years, over the off-season.

The British coach went on to work with world No 12 Denis Shapovalov, enjoying success at the Australian Open with the young Canadian who made it all the way to the last-eight before losing to eventual champion Rafael Nadal.

Murray appointed de Witt, who previously worked with the likes of Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon, working with the German during the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition in Abu Dhabi last month before travelling Down Under with him for the Australian Open.

But after suffering a straight-sets loss to qualifier Taro Daniel in round two, the current world No 102 has now parted ways with de Witt and will not be extending their partnership beyond their trial period, according to The Telegraph.

Before announcing his split with Delgado, the three-time Major champion trialled Spanish coach Esteban Carril - who had previously been linked to Emma Raducanu - during November's Stockholm Open, his final event of the 2021 season.

But it was a short-lived partnership as Murray confirmed they would not be continuing beyond his appearance in the quarter-final at the ATP 250 event.
