Andreescu battles back to beat Bonaventure at Roland-Garros
Bianca Andreescu became the third Canadian to advance to the second-round at Roland-Garros on Monday.
The 21-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., edged Ysaline Bonaventure of Belgium with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 comeback victory. The match was halted in the third set due to rain in Paris.
This is the second time Andreescu, who captured the 2019 US Open, has advanced to the second-round at Roland-Garros in her career.
Andreescu will take on the Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, the 2020 women's Olympic gold medalist, in the next round.
Felix Auger Aliassime and Leylah Annie Fernandez have already advanced while Denis Shapovalov begins his tournament on Tuesday against Denmark's Holger Rune.
