Andreas Pereira addresses Manchester United future with Flamengo transfer deal in doubt

Andreas Pereira is still hopeful he can secure a permanent move to Flamengo, despite reports suggesting the deal could collapse.

Pereira had been expected to make his loan move from Manchester United permanent, having made the move to his native Brazil last summer. Having met with Old Trafford officials, Flamengo’s club chiefs were thought to have negotiated a smaller fee for the midfielder.

Flamengo, though, are yet to confirm whether the deal will go ahead or not, with reports in South America suggesting it could now be off as Pereira goes through a tough past of form. The 26-year-old has found his chances more limited since the turn of the year.

His drop in form came after a high-profile mistake in the Copa Libertadores final last year saw Flamengo beaten by Palmeiras. Pereira has since found himself out of favour with Paulo Sousa, who became the club’s manager in February.

With the midfielder set to return to United in the summer if a permanent deal isn’t pursued, his future looks uncertain. Pereira addressed his situation as he gave an interview at the weekend, insisting he isn’t paying attention to recent reports, and is still aiming to prove he deserves his move to Flamengo.

“I have a contract until June and I will always do my best for Flamengo. I’m focused and positive for whatever comes,” Pereira told Globo Esporte.

“I just want to thank the fans, the teammates, and everything they are doing for me and have done. It was really difficult, very difficult after the final, but it’s something that inside me I’ve already overcome. I’ve already put it back and I’m looking forward more calmly. I’m sure I have enough quality to reverse
