Amusan, Ezekiel pick Paris 2024 Olympics tickets

World Record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobiloba Amusan, is the first Nigerian athlete to secure her place at the Paris 2024 Olympics Games.

Last December, World Athletics (WA), revealed the pathway to qualify for athletics at Paris 2024, including the entry standards athletes will need to achieve during the timeframes July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.

The Ogun State-born hurdler secured her spot at the BAUHAUS-Galan Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, Sweden on July 2, when she ran 12.52 to win the high hurdles race at the Olympiastadion.

Though, her qualification is subject to confirmation at the Nigerian National Trials in 2024, when the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), picks the nation’s flag bearers for the Games.
The entry standard for the 100m hurdles for the Paris 2024 Games is 12.77secs.

Tobi Express, as Amusan is fondly called by her fans, missed the podium at the 19th World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

Before the Budapest misadventure, Amusan had improved her time, scorching to a 12.34 personal season’s best at the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Diamond League meeting in Chorzów, Poland.

Another Nigerian, 400m runner, Ezekiel Nathaniel, has also secured his spots at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Nathaniel, who is Nigeria’s 400m hurdles record holder, chosed the World Athletics Championships stage in Budapest to secure his ticket to his first ever Olympics. He ran 48.47sec in the 400m heat and almost shattered the National Record (NR) in the process.

Nathaniel finished sixth in his semifinal, but his 48.47sec was enough to guarantee him the ticket to Paris 2024. The entry standard in the 400m is 48.70sec.

Meanwhile, long jumper, Ese Brume, missed confirming her Paris 2024 ticket at the World
