Ammanford school stabbing: Teenager sentenced for attempting to murder teachers and pupil during morning break

A teenage girl who tried to murder two teachers and a pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford is being sentenced today. The pupil took her dad's multi-tool to school and used it to stab deputy head Fiona Elias, teacher Liz Hopkin and a female pupil during the school's morning break on April 24 last year.

The defendant - who cannot be named due to her age - admitted possession of a bladed article and three counts of inflicting grievous harm with intent but denied attempted murder. A jury found her guilty on all counts in February and the trial judge Paul Thomas KC adjourned sentencing to April 28 saying he wanted as much information as possible on the teenager before passing sentence.

During the trial at Swansea Crown Court the jury heard that the girl approached Mrs Elias in the school yard and said "I’m going to f****** kill you" before stabbing the deputy head in the arms with the knife. When Mrs Hopkins intervened and tried to restrain the girl, the teenager turned on her and stabbed her to her neck, back, legs and arms. Other members of teaching staff tried to calm the teenager down but she ran off and attacked a girl with the bladed multi-tool before being successfully restrained and disarmed by staff.

During the trial the jury heard he jury heard how the teachers thought they were going to die during the attacks. Jurors were also shown footage from the school's CCTV cameras which captured the terrifying moment the girl stabbed her victims during the shocking incident which was played out in front of other pupils, some of whom gave evidence at the trial.
