American ultra-runner Camille Herron easily beats male opponent to win 100 Mile Championships

Endurance athlete Camille Herron was victorious at the USA Track and Field 100-mile Championships in Nevada.

Herron broke her own women’s world record to triumph, winning in 12 hours, 41 minutes and 11 seconds.

Averaging around 7:37 minutes per mile, Herron’s time was almost a minute and a half faster than her previous record, set in November 2017.

The 40-year-old finished nearly 30 minutes in front of the fastest male athlete, Arlen Glick. He crossed the line in second with a time of 13:10:25.

Herron also competed for the first time in the Masters category, for athletes aged 40 to 44. She broke the 50-mile world record in that age group with a time of 6:08:24.

The American had finished fourth at the USA Track and Field 100-mile Championships last year, and was delighted to improve on her standing.

“What a difference a year makes,” she said. “I came back healthy, humbled, hungry to redeem myself, and [ready] to let the magic come out.”

Herron is no stranger to setting incredible records – she set the 24-hour world record in 2019 by running a total of 270 kilometres at an average of five minutes and 20 seconds per kilometre.

She is known for running with her hair down during ultramarathons, while drinking beer and eating tacos.
