Amanda Serrano title fight dramatically called off due to freak hair dye issue

Amanda Serrano's homecoming bout with Nina Meinke was dramatically called off minutes before the opening bell as the Puerto Rican was deemed medically unfit to compete due to an eye injury.

Serrano, who lost to Katie Taylor on a split decision in a 2022 classic, had worn sunglasses to the pre-fight weigh-in as the injury troubled her, and she eventually did not get the clearance to compete.

Promoter Jake Paul revealed that Serrano had sustained an issue with her cornea on Friday while co-promoter Nakisa Bidarian said in the post-event press conference that after having her hair dyed on Thursday, a chemical had run into her eye while she was out running on Friday.

The featherweight world champion appeared in the ring to greet Meinke and was distraught as an official announcement was made in Hato Rey with fans promised a full refund.

Paul earlier beat Ryan Bourland in the co-main event to claim his ninth win in 10 professional fights, with his only loss coming against Tommy Fury in February 2023.
