Amanda Serrano changes her stance on Katie Taylor rematch
Amanda Serrano has had a change of heart regarding the idea of a rematch against Katie Taylor.
Just last month, the Puerto Rican fighter and her representatives were not interested in entertaining the idea of a second bout, according to Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn.
The rumoured rematch was expected to take place at Croke Park in Ireland, but Hearn revealed Jake Paul’s team “don’t really want to go to Ireland” and “don’t really want the rematch.”
However, despite a second clash originally being off the table, Serrano has seemingly warmed to the idea.
“I would go to Ireland,” she told boxingscene.com. “It doesn’t matter where they wanna fight. But right now, I just need to defend my titles.”
Serrano is currently scheduled to face Argentina’s Brenda Carbajal next month at Madison Square Garden, the same venue where she suffered her first loss in ten years at the hands of Taylor.
The Real Deal will be competing in the featherweight bracket against Carbajal, which is her preferred weight class, but she has admitted she would happily jump back to lightweight in order to face Taylor again.
A rematch is something The Bray Bomber also appears to be keen on.
“Katie’s a warrior — she never backed down from any competition or anything,” Serrano said. “So, I think she wants the rematch. We want the rematch, and I think it’s a great matchup because we put on a hell of a show.
“We showed that both of us can fight. We put butts in seats at The Garden. We sold it out. So, it was an exciting fight.”
The initial Taylor vs Serrano title clash set a huge benchmark in women’s boxing after the two fighters made history at the famous Madison Square Garden.
