Amad gives fitness update ahead of Manchester United vs Bayern Munich fixture

Amad is closing in on a return to the Manchester United senior squad after almost five months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, and has given a fresh update on his progress.

Last week, the attacker returned to training for the first time since sustaining his long-term setback against Arsenal during July’s pre-season tour of the US. Amad has a good opportunity for game time with strikers Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial out of form.

The duo are doubts for Tuesday’s crucial Champions League clash with Bayern Munich after missing training on Monday through illness, while it is unclear whether Amad himself will be available. He was not part of the squad that lost to Bournemouth on Saturday.

However, the Ivorian has given an update on his return on social media. Taking to Instagram on Monday, he wrote: “Step by step to better get back in shape [sic]”.

He could be loaned out again in the new year if Ten Hag does not deem him part of his plans for the second half of the season. Earlier this year, the United boss said he sees a future for Amad at the club with the player’s last competitive game for the Reds coming back in May 2021 amid several proceeding loan spells.

Since his January 2021 arrival, Amad has played nine times for United, scoring and assisting once apiece. He will be keen to get going again as he vies for a place in the Ivory Coast
