Alpine skiing-Shiffrin to decide on super-G participation later on Thursday

YANQING, China : Mikaela Shiffrin will decide by 1700 local time (0900 GMT) on Thursday whether she will take part in the super-G race scheduled for Friday at the Beijing Winter Games, a spokeswoman for the U.S. team said.

Shiffrin, three-time overall Alpine skiing World Cup champion and three-time Olympic medallist, failed to finish either of this year's Olympics races she has started in so far, rare slip-ups in the 26-year-old's stellar career.

"Mikaela will be skiing today, and based on how today goes she will make a decision for super-G. This is common for Mikaela, as she goes day by day with her program since she skis in every event (which is rare on the circuit)," the spokeswoman said.

"The team captain’s meeting is at 5 (pm local time). She will make the decision by then."
