Allianz Hurling League wrap: Westmeath into Division 2A semi final

Westmeath booked their place in the Allianz League Division 2A semi-final against Kerry thanks to a comeback victory over Kildare at Newbridge.

The Lilywhites led by six with 20 minutes on the clock, but they had lost Gerry Keegan to a straight red card by that stage, and this allowed the Lake County to cut the gap to two by the break.

And Westmeath were able to use their extra man advantage to push home after the break, with Cormac Boyle's late goal putting the icing on the cake.

That result meant that Carlow had to settle for a fourth place finish after their victory over Meath, a result which relegates the Royals.

There was never more than three points between the sides until Chris Nolan goalled for the visitors at Navan.

When Nolan scored his second major with six minutes left, it left three between the sides once more and the Royals couldn't find an answer as they dropped down to Division 2B.

Sligo booked their spot in the Division 2B semis after eking out a draw with Wicklow, with the Garden County earning the point with a late Kieran Conway goal.

That result meant that London missed out after they were well beaten by runaway leaders Derry, while Mayo were relegated after losing to Donegal, who will play Sligo in the semis.
