Allan Saint-Maximin was decent v Wolves

Newcastle United bounced back from Sunday’s heavy defeat to Tottenham Hotspur with a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night and Allan Saint-Maximin did well in only his second start since February.

The 25-year-old was having his minutes managed by Eddie Howe after picking up a knock, but he’s started Newcastle’s last two games and is getting back to his best.

Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave Saint-Maximin a player rating of 8/10 and said he ‘sliced open’ Wolves countless times. Sean Walsh of 90min gave the uncapped Frenchman a player rating of 7/10 and said he made a positive impact. Finally, iNews gave him a player rating of 6/10.

Though journalists may be mixed on his overall performance, numbers don’t lie, and Saint-Maximin was heavily involved at St James’ Park. Against Wolves, he played for 94 minutes, had 50 touches, completed 79% of his 19 passes, had four shots, whipped in three crosses, had four successful dribbles, but he was dispossessed eight times so it was a mixed evening.

Saint-Maximin has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals with three assists. The 25-year-old hasn’t found the back of the net since January, however, and hasn’t managed an assist since September, so fans may want to see some goal output from him soon.
