All traffic stopped on M62 as fire engines block motorway - updates

Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident on a busy motorway on the outskirts of Manchester. All traffic has been stopped on the M62 heading eastbound.

The incident is thought to have happened between junction 19 of the (A6046 Middleton Road - Heywood) to to junction 20 (A627 - Rochdale). Traffic is being help because of a vehicle on fire on the route.

Reports from the scene suggest that a number of fire engines blocking the road. Highways England cameras show that traffic is stretching back around two miles.

A statement released online by National Highways reads: "The M62 eastbound is currently blocked between J19 Middleton and J20 Rochdale due to a vehicle fire. Fire crews are on scene are working hard to make the area safe.

"We will release traffic as soon as it is safe to do so."
