All-Ireland ladies final is 'Kerry's to lose' - Nadine Doherty

Sunday's All-Ireland football final between Galway and Kerry is "too close to call" but is "Kerry's to lose", according to former Donegal football player Nadine Doherty.

Eleven-time winners Kerry go in search of their first All-Ireland ladies title since 1993 after coming up short against Dublin in last year’s final.

The Kingdom defeated Meath and Armagh on their way to the showpiece event for the third year in a row.

Meanwhile, Galway are hoping to claim the title for just the second time and are unlikely finalists following league relegation, but they earned their place in a first decider in five years after overcoming reigning champions Dublin, and Cork.

However, Doherty believes Kerry will be the slight favourites going into the match,

"It came as a surprise to me three or four weeks ago when Galway turned Dublin over in the quarter-final," she said.

She added: "No surprise that Kerry are there. It’s their third final in a row, they’ve made no secret of the fact that everybody is back – plus extra.

"They’ve added to their panel in 2024 and the aim this year was Championship. They got to a League final but that was a bonus to them, the Championship has been their number one."

The former Donegal captain told RTÉ Radio 1's The Championship that the Tribeswomen are the surprise team after their relegation from Division 1.
