Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has picked four of his teammates he believes can go on to captain the club after he was officially given the armband for the rest of the season.
Mikel Arteta confirmed on Wednesday morning that the experienced marksman will take up role for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Aubameyang was stripped of the captaincy following disciplinary breach at the end of 2021. He subsequently had his contract cancelled and joined Barcelona in January.
Lacazette had been filling in as captain over the past couple of months, but Arteta was yet to officially give him the role, until this week.
During his press conference ahead of Arsenal's trip to Wolves, Arteta was asked if Lacazette would now wear the armband for the rest of the season.
"Laca is the captain at the moment yes," Arteta replied.
Despite being named as the new captain, there remains an expectation that the Frenchman will leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season with his contract set to expire.
Shortly after Arteta's press conference, an interview with Lacazette was released on the club's official website.
