Alexander Volkanovski replaces Kamaru Usman atop the UFC's official pound-for-pound rankings

Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has replaced recently deposed welterweight titleholder Kamaru Usman atop the UFC‘s official pound-for-pound rankings.

Newly crowned 170-pound champion Leon Edwards, who was outside the top 15 prior to UFC 278, entered the rankings at No. 9 after stopping Usman in last weekend’s main event to claim his welterweight title.

Edwards, 30, was a huge underdog going into his rematch with Usman, 35, according to the bookmakers.

Usman, who had not lost a fight for over nine years prior to his defeat to Edwards, fell three places to No. 4. He saw his winning streak snapped at 18.

Volkanovski’s City Kickboxing teammate UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya climbed one spot to No. 2. Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira also came in at No. 3, ahead of both heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou (No. 5, up one) and bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling (below Edwards at No. 7).

Former UFC lightweight title challenger Dustin Poirier was ranked one place lower at No. 8 and current UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo also saw himself move down one as well at No. 9.

While the exact same thing happened to light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka as well.

The rest of the top 15 is former featherweight champion Max Holloway, former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, former bantamweight champion Petr Yan and former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno respectively.
