Alex Neil buzzing, possible Championship signing: Big Sunderland transfer claim - opinion

Sunderland could re-sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Jack Clarke in the summer after he enjoyed a fruitful loan spell in the North of England where he has helped the Black Cats get to the League One play-off final.

A big reason for their increase in form has been down to their business in the transfer market, signing the likes of Jack Clarke, Patrick Roberts, and Leon Dajaku. However the former has made quite the impression on both the league and the fans during his loan from Spurs this season.

It now appears that Clarke is set to go on loan again next season before securing a permanent move away from the club in the following summer, and Sunderland has been tipped as the team to push the move through. With this in mind, we have looked at two consequences of the possible re-signing of the 21-year-old next season.

Neil will be buzzing

The Sunderland manager has enjoyed a good spell at the North England club and in this time he has hailed Clarke for his performances, especially his most recent one in the play-off semi-final against Sheffield Wednesday.

After the game he stated in an interview, “Jack has got good quality. He can take the ball, he can dribble, he can go past people, and those kinds of players are really useful to have in the team and he delivered the moment we needed and Pat [Roberts] got on the end of it”.

A possible promotion to the Championship will see an increase in the competition week-to-week and therefore signing a player who he is familiar with and who is familiar with the team itself would be a huge bonus for them going into the season. Indeed, keeping one of the players who will have potentially got you to the Championship will be high on the agenda for Alex Neil, should they gain promotion.
