Alex de Minaur shoots down claims he’s ‘being investigated’ for buying fake COVID vaccine pass

Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur has released a statement after being embroiled in a COVID-19 vaccine controversy.

The 23-year-old shot down claims he’s reportedly “being investigated” by police for allegedly purchasing a fake vaccination passport from an underground network.

It comes after Spanish Police this week confirmed they had dismantled a criminal group that sell passes to unvaccinated people who would use them to bypass jab rules.

It’s understood the group paid people working in health systems to falsify documentation and upload incorrect proof of vaccination data into official government databases.

11 people have been arrested over the scheme and charged with “forgery and the use of forged documents” after selling the passes to more than 600 people.

Among the customers are a number of well-known people in Spain, such as actors, businesspeople and sports stars including boxers, bodybuilders and a professional footballer.

Mr de Minaur, who represents Australia on the court but lives in Spain, was this week named on the list.

“The Australian tennis player Alex de Minaur, of a Spanish mother and a Uruguayan father, is one of the last investigated as an alleged client of the false Covid passport plot,” Spanish outlet Telemadrid said.

“The tennis player joins the list of top-level athletes, businessmen, musicians and actors who, supposedly, could have made use of the network that provided false Covid passports and PCR.”

In a statement, the 23-year-old insisted that he has a “completely valid, accurate and true vaccination record.”

“I received my first dose of the vaccine in London last summer, and the second one at the Hospital La Paz in Madrid,” De Minaur wrote on social media.
